Smart scheduling: how to eliminate calendar gaps

If you run a salon or work as an independent professional, you have probably noticed a frustrating pattern: clients pick random time slots, leaving 30 or 60-minute gaps between appointments that nobody can fill. By the end of the day, your calendar looks like a puzzle with missing pieces.

The problem: unfillable gaps

Here is a concrete example. Your salon is open from 9 AM to 6 PM, and your services take 90 minutes. A client picks 3:30 PM. Their appointment ends at 5 PM, leaving 60 minutes until closing. Nobody can book a 90-minute service in a 60-minute window. That hour becomes dead time.

The same thing happens between appointments. If one appointment ends at 10:30 AM and the next one starts at 12:00 PM, you have a 90-minute gap. That seems long enough, but if another appointment lands at 11:00 AM, you end up with a 30-minute gap that none of your services can fill.

The solution: smart scheduling

Glamingo's smart scheduling feature solves exactly this problem. When enabled, the system analyzes each time slot before showing it to the client. If choosing that slot would create a gap that none of your services could fill, the slot simply does not appear.

You have three modes available:

Standard - all available slots are shown without any filtering. Clients have maximum flexibility, but calendar gaps may appear.

Optimized (recommended) - shows many options but prevents hard-to-fill gaps. The system checks whether the gap before and after each appointment can be filled with at least one of your services. This mode strikes a good balance between client flexibility and calendar efficiency.

Compact - only shows slots adjacent to existing appointments or at the start and end of your working hours. Clients see fewer options, but your calendar stays completely gap-free.

How to enable it

1. Go to Settings in your dashboard
2. Open the Working Hours tab
3. Scroll down to the Smart Scheduling section
4. Choose your preferred mode, the setting saves automatically

That is all you need to do. The time slots shown to your clients adjust immediately.

Which mode should you choose?

If you offer services with varying durations (for example, haircut 30 min, coloring 90 min, styling 60 min), the Optimized mode works best. The variety of durations means that almost any gap can be filled, so you will not lose many booking options.

If your services have uniform durations (for example, only 60-minute massages), Compact mode is the better choice. With a single duration, any gap shorter than that duration is automatically unusable, and compact mode prevents that entirely.

If you prefer full control, stick with Standard. Some professionals prefer to see all options and manage their schedule manually.
